The Power of a Walk

Recently, I was diagnosed with coronary artery disease, hypertension, and diabetes which frightened me and left me unsure  where to turn for help. A CHS Care Manager made a life changing call to me.  With the cooperation and approval of my doctors, he instructed me to start walking, slowly at first, just in my neighborhood, preferably with a partner. My daughter, a new mother, hoping to shed some of her pregnancy weight, agreed to join me. The uninterrupted time we spent walking and talking together enriched our relationship and as a result we’ve become much closer!

But the story doesn’t end there! On our route was our neighborhood church. One day the minister asked if he could join us on our walk. Soon after, his wife joined us after being advised by her doctor to begin an exercise plan. More of our neighbors have since joined along while we all walk our way to healthier lives and a stronger community!

I’m so grateful to all the people at CHS... They truly care about their members and have really helped me get healthy, make friends and get my life back on track!
